Pia Sundhage: Swedish Football Legend

Early Life and Career

Born on February 13, 1960, in Ulricehamn, Sweden, Pia Sundhage was a talented footballer from a young age. She played for her hometown club, Ulricehamns IF, before moving to Jitex BK in 1978. At Jitex, she became one of the most dominant players in Swedish women's football, leading the team to several league titles and cup victories.

Coaching Success

After retiring from playing, Sundhage transitioned into coaching. She began her coaching career at Jitex and quickly established herself as one of the most successful coaches in the country. Under her guidance, Jitex won numerous domestic titles and reached the semifinals of the UEFA Women's Cup.

In 2007, Sundhage was appointed head coach of the United States women's national team. During her time with the USWNT, she led the team to Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, as well as a FIFA Women's World Cup title in 2009.

After a brief stint as head coach of the Swedish women's national team, Sundhage took over the reins of the Brazil women's national team in 2019. With Brazil, she won the Copa America in 2022.
